Mail in Aland goes way back into postal history into the times of pre-philately when Finland was part of the Swedish Kingdom and later the Russian Empire, before Finland became independent in 1917.

Of course, privately produced items like FDCs and Maximum Cards are also plenty in the context of Aland philately but these are not considered here. "The Normal" here covers from the beginnings of mail in Aland up to the Aland stamps period between 1984 and 1996.
