ALAND (ÅLAND) PHILATELY

Private Philately
In modern philately it has become a habit by private persons/dealers/institutions to produce philatelic items for official postal issues, mostly postage stamps of a country. This practice dates back decades and is still applied today. These private products concern FDCs, maximum cards and other philatelically relevant items. In those cases maximum cards, FDCs and others are designed and produced by the private issuer and the targeted postage stamps are attached to these items and most of the times stamped by the official first day cancel of the respective postal administration produced for the issuing occasion.
How much such items are collect worthy is a matter of personal preference. Of course, Aland is not an exception to the practice of private philatelic items. In Aland's case private FDCs, and maximum cards exist for essentially all issued postal stamps for Aland. Also at least one private numiscover exists as well as privately produced black prints.
