In 1988 postal services in Finland had their 350th anniversary. In commemoration of this milestone both for Finland and Aland a stamp discount campaign was launched. In Finland a stamp booklet with 10 stamps each of them with face value of 1.80 FIM was sold for 14 FIM. In Aland a small bag was produced which was stuffed with a two times strip of 5 stamps, again each with a face value of 1.80 FIM, sold equivalently for 14 FIM.

In both cases the discount items were to be purchased only based on a coupon to be presented at the post office. While Aland was strict with this procedure, in Finland a more lenient attitude was prevalent. The period of sale was from 1/2/1988 to 31/5/1988.

In Aland the discount bags were restricted to two for each household based on one coupon. The method of distribution of the corresponding coupons was through normal postal delivery as well as them being part of flyers and newspapers. In reality during the period of sale the discount bags were not in huge demand. Therefore at the end of the selling period the discount bags were made available for sale generally for one week. The remaining stock was distributed for free to Aland's pupils of certain schools.

The coupons were printed in black writing on yellow, orange or orangered paper. In both Aland and Finland replacement coupons in black/blue were held in reserve. These could be claimed by customers who had not received or otherwise not available the distributed coupons. The Aland coupons distinguish from the Finland coupons in the wording "Endast för private hushåll" (for private households only) versus "1 häfte/förmånskupong" (1 booklet/benefit coupon).

Finland's discount stamp booklet was only available in Aland at the stamp counter in Mariehamn.
