ALAND (ÅLAND) PHILATELY
Postage Stamps

Before 1984 stamps of Finland have been used since the beginning of stamp issuing times for postage in Aland.
As of 1/3/1984 Aland stamps are being issued. The number of stamps per year started off in 1984 with 7 stamps issued in a mix of definitive and commemorative stamps. In 2024 the number of stamps has risen to 16 per year.
Between 1984 and 1996, covered on this page 119 stamps have been issued. This excludes any double counting for stamps with an initial edition and a second edition later, having the exact same design and motives. In 1993 the stamp designing and, printing and issuing which had been done hitherto by Posts and Telecommunications of Finland was taken over by Åland Post.
The themes of the stamps are mostly Aland related covering culture, flora and fauna, sports, buildings, landscapes, ships. While in the beginning the stamps' design was mostly average, over the years the stamps have become more colorful with many of them really being attractive to look at. On this website the section "The Beautiful" gives an impression of this claim.
The stamps on this page are in chronological order, separated by year. There are no catalog numbers since different catalogs follow different numbering. The most comprehensive one which aims to cover all philatelic items issued by Åland Post is "Åland-Spezial" authored by Robert Fillips, catalog language is German. The 2025 version is the first one which is distributed in two volumes.
